About Joan

Greetings!

I am psychotherapist practicing in south central Pennsylvania. On these pages you will find information about my approach to psychotherapy, a little about myself, and various resources that you may find interesting and useful.

The methods that I use, Bowen Family Systems Therapy, neurofeedback training (in person) access to neurotransmitter testing, and Lightwork (in person or via the phone) are effective individually or in combination.

Enjoy your visit here and feel free to e-mail your comments or questions.

“My approach to therapy is practical and down to earth.”

My work has been my passion for well over 35 years now. I thrive on helping others to empower themselves, take responsibility and to help people make positive and long-standing changes which will impact their future.

The success that many of my clients achieve is related to at least two factors: the resilience of the human spirit and the theory base that I use. When you read some of my clients’ stories, you can see how they have used me as a resource to get their lives back on track. However, it really is the individual that decides to make that first step – to seek help in order to improve his or her life.

My specialties include treating adults with depression, anxiety, PTSD, child abuse, sexual assault, marital problems, work-related issues, and stress related, physical problems. I also work with school-age children and adolescents. Additionally, I have extensive postgraduate training and experience in the treatment of childhood and adult emotional trauma.

I hold a Masters of Science in Nursing, with a major in Psychiatric Mental Health (1980) and a PhD (1985) from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

My postgraduate study was undertaken at the Georgetown Family Center in Washington, DC where Murray Bowen, MD supervised me for several years.

My license number is: RN 237678-L; I am certified by the American Nurses’ Association (0194021-01) and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to practice psychotherapy.

My Blue Shield provider number is: DR 804 244
My Blue Cross provider number is: 02909400 (group number, box number 33 on form)
02134201 (individual number, box 24K).

My therapeutic approach is very practical and down-to-earth. I work with individuals, couples and families who are in crisis or are interested in long term, positive change. I welcome you to make contact with me at any time to discuss your area of interest and to help familiarize you with my therapeutic approach.
